Why this Kolaveri Di ?

I was half way through a very very boring session of a game called antakshari when I noticed her beautiful smile . Mind you this was on a trip with my office mates . They were all hindi guys except one who thankfully gave me company . They were all into the seventies songs of hindi movies and expected me to join them . But then her smile and energy made an otherwise terrible bus ride less terrible .
I had already seen her in my office before the bus ride . Hell , we had even accorded each other some nervous ‘hi stranger’ smiles each time our eyes met in the corridor . So there she was surrounded by hundred leopards and I was thinking ,’ would she have a boy friend ? Would she be willing to talk to a non hindi guy ? ‘
These are the same questions that come to every guy in the foreign land with a foreign language problem . Now being a tamil guy , I had to sing one song for sure . I knew I would be made to do it . I was hoping If I just made sure my lyrics had the following words ‘ moon-u , girl-u , skin-u , heart-u , black-u , white-u ‘ I would make the hindi folks happy . After all, they would sing only the line ‘ why this kolaveri kolaveri di ? ‘
I did start the song when I saw she was interested in singing the song as well . She was the most enthusiastic of the lot. When the lyrics had ‘ white skin girlu girlu ‘ I pointed to her and sang it . Gave me some optimism when she laughed at me pointing to her. I thought we could be pals if she weren’t surrounded by all these people. After lunch on the beach resort, I sat down on the floor watching most people line up to play cricket when she came up to me.
She asked me the question I knew she would ask ‘ What is the meaning of Kolaveri ?’ Thus started our conversation with me launching into the specifics of Tamil language and of course the synonym of ‘Kolaveri’. We started to chat about various topics and I was beginning to get the feeling that I could probably become her pal. She seemed cooler and smarter than others.
‘ Where are you actually from ?’
‘Dehradun.’
I was thinking ‘Wowww !’ and camly said ‘ What are you doing in Pune then ? ‘
‘ I been living here almost my entire life and so I am almost a marathi now.’
Then the conversation moved on to our professional lives and I tried my best to stop one question from coming out of her mind. I even changed topics like ‘ Look at that building. Only a girl could have chosen to paint the building pink and yellow’ to stuff like ‘ Aren’t doon girls supposed to be enjoying life rather than working in an I.T company ?’
However, I couldn’t keep her question at bay and finally she asked the question I had been not eager for
‘ What is your work experience ?’ I knew she was elder to me and I did not want her to know that. But I guess I had run out of luck and had to accede to her question
‘ Two years .’
‘What ? Seriously ? You look like you are five to six years in I.T’
‘ Well. If you nust know. Once I went inside an examination hall to give an internal certification exam and all the examinees in the hall thought I was the examiner. They even stood up to say ‘Good Afternoon Sir”
She did laugh at that and then I knew she wouldn’t take me serious after that. I was a kid to her. Just a kid.

After we came back from that vacation, I couldn’t talk to her for couple more days. Then I saw her resting on the couch in the lounge area of our office. Picking courage, I walked up to her and asked ‘ Why are you sitting alone ?’
‘Well my team is rather boring. Plus I am fasting today. So conserving energy.’
‘Why are you on fast ?’
‘For Durga -Maata to help me get a good husband.’
I thought to myself ‘ Me and my big mouth. Did I have to ask her that. Most girls in office do the same thing.’
‘Are you free ? I like to walk but none of my team mates like to. So I am like stuck alone.’
‘Yes. I love to walk and talk.’ I don’t know if she expected any other answer from me.

We went down and started walking on the pavement near our office. She was pretty and that was made obvious by every guy staring at us whilst we were walking.
‘Hey. They are all looking at you.’
‘Why do you care whether they look at me or not?’
‘Just like that. They all keep staring at you and because of you at us.’
‘That’s Ok. At least these guys think I am pretty. You know I am still single.’
I am like ‘What ? Seriously ?’
‘Yes. I don’t know why?’
‘ I think only those people who are missing something in life which is complemented by a member of the opposite sex feels the need to fall in love. Probably you enjoy life on your own so much so that you never felt need for a guy.’
‘Probably you are right. But I think some of your logic is also wrong.’
‘Ha ha. Whatever you say, Madam.’
‘You know something ? That day when you said you were younger than me .’
‘Yes.’
‘Well you could have at least lied to me saying you were older than me.’

and my mind was singing ‘ Why this kolaveri kolaveri kolaveri Di ?’

You should have replied “what happened if I am younger ..”.
I am not sure who this gal is .. but seems you can spend your time with her :)

Age doesn’t matter when you see your life for next 15-20 years. So if you want you can go and say above line to her ..
